Check out Music City Soccer Blog

I've posted several local news items to the blog over the last few days and will try to have something new every day or so. Be sure to stop by and take a look.

P.S., if you're wondering why I have a blog post telling you to come to the blog, it's because I'm trying to use HootSuite to post updates to Facebook and Twitter.

Russ Plummer Interview

The "Soccer With Coach John" website has a fantastic interview posted with Coach Russ Plummer of Hendersonville High School, one of the true icons of Soccer in Middle Tennessee.

Great stuff there about the influence Indiana University and Coach Jerry Yeagley had on him, and how he's spent the last 23 years building up the sport in our corner of the world.

Follow the link and enjoy.

More info about Coach Plummer and his teams can be found at the Henderson H.S. Soccer Website.

Reflections on the first year of Music City Soccer

Wow, you'd think there was very little soccer indeed in the Music City, judging by how little I've posted over the last year, so along, with my pledge to do better in the coming year, here's a little proof that any deficiencies are solely mine:

Club soccer continues to grow in out area. Aside from the big ones, we have:
- Futbol Club Academy announcing plans to anchor a new sports complex in Antioch
- Nashville Soccer United, a brand new club, was formed to bring a "travel light" program to metro Nashville
- Eagle Express Soccer Club, which has been around for years, finally has its own website, and it's first State Champions

Futsal has also grown, with leagues now near Cool Springs, in Hendersonville and Murfreesboro, and at Ensworth High School

I'd like to see more training and play opportunities in the summers and winters, but at least we do have:
- Soccer specific training at M.A.D. Sports Training by Cool Springs
- Open play and field rental at the WestSide Soccer Center

Local players are performing well at the college level, including:
- Susannah Dennis, from Franklin and BGA, is a Sophomore at Georgia and finished third on the team in goals.
- Vanderbilt Sophomore midfielder Dana Schwartz (from Brentwood) had 3 goals and 2 assists for the Commodores
- Daniel Kelly of Hendersonville finished a four-year career at Indiana University with 76 games played and 67 starts.
- Trevecca Goalie and Hendersonville native Hayden Coffman was named to the TransSouth All Conference team

Indoor Tournaments

I've put together a quick listing of Indoor Tournaments scheduled in the area this winter ...

Jan 7-9 -- Station Camp High School

Jan 14 - 16 -- Beech High School

Jan 28 - 30 -- Hendersonville High School

Jan 28 - 29 -- Fairview Winter Jam VII at Robert A Ring

Feb 11 - 13 -- Fairview Turf Cup IV at Crockett Park

Feb 12 -- Smyrna High School

Feb 18 - 20 -- Ellis Middle School

Almost every weekend in January and February:
- Brentwood Soccer Club Winter Indoor Series at Crockett Park
- TNFC Winter Indoor Series at Robert A. Ring

University School of Jackson Girls Soccer

The Jackson Sun has a story about the Division II-A state champion girls team from University School of Jackson ... "USJ did not have a single senior on the roster, but the Lady Bruins did start five eighth-graders in the state tournament."

ODP Success for Tennessee Soccer Players

From the Tennessee State Soccer Website:

"Daniel Rutter (1996), Wilfred Williams (1996), Tanner Dietrich (1997) named to the Region 3 ODP All-Star teams from US Youth Soccer ODP Interregionals. Coy Craft (1997) stars with the u14 National Team."

Here's a link to the US Youth Soccer News release about the All Star Teams.

Congratulations, guys!
